What Documents Should You Carry While Driving in India?

When driving in India, carrying the right documents is important for staying compliant with traffic rules and avoiding unnecessary problems during traffic checks.

1. Driving Licence

A valid Driving Licence is required to drive a vehicle legally. Make sure your licence is valid and suitable for the type of vehicle you are driving.

2. Registration Certificate (RC)

The Registration Certificate proves that your vehicle is legally registered. You should always keep your RC available, either physically or in an accepted digital form.

You can use MyMotor to check vehicle RC details.

3. Motor Insurance

Valid motor insurance is mandatory for vehicles on Indian roads. Check your policy's validity regularly and renew it before expiry.

MyMotor also offers car insurance and bike insurance services.

4. PUC Certificate

A valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate shows that your vehicle meets applicable emission requirements. Make sure it is renewed before it expires.

5. FASTag

If you frequently travel on highways, make sure your FASTag is active and has sufficient balance for toll payments. You can check FASTag-related information through MyMotor.

Check Your Challan Too

Along with keeping your documents valid, it is a good idea to check your vehicle for pending traffic fines. You can use MyMotor's Challan Check to check available challan details using your vehicle number.

Don't Wait Until a Challan Becomes a Problem

An e-challan can escape unnoticed until the vehicle owner checks their records. If you want to know how to check an e-challan by vehicle number, how e-challans work and what to do next after finding a pending challan, read: No One Tells You an e-Challan Exists till It's Too Late.
