Wrong Traffic Challan in Maharashtra: How to Check, Dispute and File a Complaint Online

Finding a traffic challan which you did not make a violation for, can be incredibly frustrating. It could be that the vehicle number is wrong, the violation itself is wrong, duplicate challan or even a wrong date and/or location.

As a car/bike owner in Maharashtra, the first thing you need to do is check challan details before making any decisions on paying or disputing the challan.

How to Check a Traffic Challan in Maharashtra

Maharashtra traffic police permit vehicle owners to challan check online with their car or bike number. The challan record can show the violation, date, time, location and fine details.

Before taking any action:

• Check the vehicle's registration number
• Check the violation listed on the challan
• Check the date, time and location
• Check the fine amount
• Check if the challan is pending, paid or disputed

Checking on a regular basis can help identify any fines that may have not been notified to you.

What If Your Challan Is Incorrect?

It can happen that a vehicle owner finds a challan that seems to not be correct. For instance, the vehicle wasn't where the violation was spotted, the registration number is wrong, or the same violation is listed more than once. Before filing a complaint; collect the challan number and any information that is needed to support your case.

How to Dispute a Wrong Challan in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has an online e-Challan grievance that allows vehicle owners to dispute wrong challans and track the complaint status.

The process is straightforward:

Check challan → Verify details → Collect supporting information → Submit grievance → Track status

When submitting the complaint, clearly explain what appears to be incorrect. Keep the grievance or reference number so you can track the complaint later.

If the challan is valid, you can use the applicable official payment channel instead.
