What you’ll learn
Avoid repeating a recoverable verb phrase.
លុបកន្សោមកិរិយាសព្ទស្ទួនដែលអ្នកអានអាចយល់បាន។
Meaning and use
English can omit a verb phrase after an auxiliary when the missing meaning is recoverable. Keep the auxiliary appropriate to the original tense, aspect, and modality. A lexical present or past simple verb often requires do-support. Ellipsis improves cohesion, but only when the reader can identify what has been omitted.
អាចលុបកន្សោមកិរិយាសព្ទដែលយល់បានពីមុន ដោយរក្សាកិរិយាសព្ទជំនួយ។ បើកិរិយាសព្ទដើមជា present/past simple ត្រូវប្រើ do/does/did តាមបរិបទ។
