What you’ll learn
Interpret informal omissions and choose a suitable register.
បកស្រាយការលុបពាក្យក្នុងការសន្ទនា និងជ្រើសរចនាប័ទ្ម។
Meaning and use
Conversation allows recoverable omissions such as Want some tea? and short fragments that answer a question. These can be natural without being suitable for every formal document. A discourse marker such as well or actually helps manage interaction, but it is not usually needed in every written sentence.
ការសន្ទនាអាចលុបផ្នែកដែលយល់បាន ដូចជា Want some tea?។ វាធម្មជាតិក្នុងការនិយាយ តែឯកសារផ្លូវការអាចត្រូវការប្រយោគពេញ។

Common mistakes
| Instead of | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| He go there yesterday. (not licensed by ordinary ellipsis) | He went there yesterday. | Informal style does not generally remove required past-tense marking. |
| I am agree. (intended: agreement) | I agree. | Agree is a lexical verb, not an adjective after be. |
