Meaning and use

Will have been + -ing emphasizes the duration of an activity up to a future reference point. It does not require the activity to stop at that point. Compare the future perfect simple when counting completed outcomes. State verbs usually use the simple form even with long durations.

Grammar patterns

Pattern	Example or form
Duration to a future point	By July, I will have been teaching for ten years.

Examples

1. By six, we will have been driving for eight hours.

   ត្រឹមម៉ោងប្រាំមួយ យើងនឹងបានបើកបរអស់ប្រាំបីម៉ោង។

2. In June, she will have been studying here for a year.

   នៅខែមិថុនា នាងនឹងបានរៀននៅទីនេះអស់មួយឆ្នាំ។

3. By noon, I will have written three pages.

4. Next week, I will have known Dara for a decade.

Everyday conversation

Dara: How long will you have been waiting by four?

Maly: By then, I will have been waiting for two hours.

Common mistakes

Instead of	Use	Why
I will have been wait for an hour.	I will have been waiting for an hour.	The continuous requires -ing after been.
I will have been knowing her for years.	I will have known her for years.	Know normally describes a state with a simple form.
